Intro to Scratch

This week my class has started programming with scratch. Though I have had experience with it in 6th grade, the interface has changed and become much more intuitive. A few awesome features of Scratch include the ability to upload your own sprites and music to your project. You can also have things go on forever instead of programming the same actions over and over. You can also put in "if__then" statements and can enter your name into the program to make it interactive. Scratch also responds to keystrokes and clicks. Overall it's a very simple programming website for children.

Lessons 5 & 6

M:\10th Grade\Willow Lesson 5 and 6.html

For lesson six I took images that I felt were relevant to the insanity that is my code and did basic adjustments to them. I color corrected and sharpened them to make them look more fabulous. Overall it wasn't difficult.

Twenty Questions

My group chose Disney Characters, Star Wars Characters. TV Characters, Music Artists and Donald Trump. We won the majority of the twenty question rounds against the computer. For the Star Wars Characters round we didn't have sufficient knowledge of the series to provide accurate answers, which may have skewed our results. The second time we chose the same character, the computer got it in 20 questions exactly. I really enjoyed playing 20 Questions because it took me back to my earlier years when I would try and stump the little 20Q circle thing.

Viewing Classmate's Creations

I was impressed to see the complexity of the work of my classmates upon viewing the work that they have made using the bead loom and rug weaver software. They have all seemed to create things that interest them, which is important. It's harder to do an activity if it's something you dislike.

Corn Rows

The corn rows activity was the easiest to understand for me. You could plot multiple braids at a time and it was easier to figure out which ways you could make the direction of the braids go. This was the easiest activity by far.

Digital Rug Weaver

I have found that out of the other two activities I have completed thus far, this one was the easiest to create. Rather than points, I used the line function without trouble to create this sample rug pattern. I tried the triangle option, but it was way too hard.

Native American Weaving- Dog Pattern

I created this dog using the point and line functions. It was tricky at first, but I was able to replicate the design on the picture nearly perfectly.

What You May Have Missed on Tech in the Past Week

These past few weeks, new technology has been released to the public. Most notably is Apple's new iOS 9, which includes features like an all new app switcher, a battery conservation mode, new ways to navigate in the Photos app, the Music app responding to plugging in your earbuds, and the new and improved 'Hey Siri' function, to name a few. iOS 9 was released Wednesday of last week, and already 35% of Apple users have installed it on their various devices. Also, after a few months the Chromecast team at Google has leaked some information about the new Chromecast 2, a 'streaming dongle' which brings talk of improved wifi, which could be a game changer for households. These are two very popular, trending topics on technology of the week. About the Admin

I'm Beth Machado, and am the admin of this blog. This blog is an unofficial branch off of my brand CreativeProjectiles, and will be primarily used for the business class I am enrolled in for this semester of school. I am currently in my sophomore year of high school and am taking Exploring Computer Science for the semester to expand on my computer knowledge and to develop new skills promised in the course such as coding and creating applications. Here are some essential things to know about my character: I have an affinity for all animals, but like cats and snakes in particular. My favorite movie is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and so you don't make the mistake now, once you bring it up, I won't stop talking about it. It is a movie I am very passionate about, and for some reason I have an entire arsenal of information about it stored in my head that will never need to be used ever. I am also a well-rounded artist. I draw, do graphic design work for my job, take photographs, write short stories and dance. A word most would use to describe me is strange, which is something I take pride in.My biggest desire in life is to find a job and lifestyle that doesn't bore me to death.
